Generation II Infinity² Nutritionals

The five formulas that form the core of the unique Infinity² line of nutritional products have not significantly changed since their first introduction to the dietary supplement market. These five products, Digest-a-Meal, Insure Plus, Life Force Super Antioxidant, Lipo-chromizyme and Total Flora Support, have created a new standard (and many copycat products) for totally natural supplementation. However, the Infinity² Formulation Team has been committed from the outset to an ongoing program of research and improvement of every product in the Infinity² line. The improved versions of these formulas that are now available are the tangible result of that program.

Nutritional product improvements are made possible by two factors:

1. Research showing increased benefit from formula changes.

2. New or improved raw materials becoming available.

The improvements that have been made in Generation II formulas are the result of both of these factors. Specifically, here are the improvements that were made in each formula:

Digest-a-Meal

The principal enhancements to this product are a change in the type of peptidase used and the addition of two new enzymes, acid-stable protease and glucoamylase, to the formula.With regard to peptidase, its role is a vital one in that it completes the digestion of protein to the amino acid level after protease has broken some of the peptide bonds to produce polypeptides. Although Digest-a-Meal has always contained a peptidase enzyme activity, ongoing research has resulted in the recent availability of a new type of peptidase, designated Peptidase FP, which completes this digestive step far more quickly and thoroughly.

In addition, Acid-stable Protease is now in the formula to assure that the process of digesting protein is continued at a high rate in the very acid environment of the pyloric (lower) stomach as the food passes through that region. Finally, the enzyme Glucoamylase is now in the formula. This enzyme works together with other carbohydrate-digesting enzymes such as amylase, lactase, maltase and invertase to complete the digestion of complex carbohydrates. It should be understood that the completeness of the digestion of carbohydrates, removing all partially digested sugar residues, is not only very important from a nutrition perspective, but is a key factor in correcting food sensitivity reactions.

Insure Plus

There are two very significant changes in the Generation II formula of this product:

Insure Plus derives its B-complex component from several of its whole-food ingredients. The richest sources of certain of the nutrients related to the B-complex are found in the nutritional yeasts. The richest completely natural source of the B-complex (vitamins and associated factors), especially the "high-number" members of this complex such as biotin, folic acid and B-12, has been Brewers Yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisae). Recently, however, a new, more potent strain of this "superfood" has been developed.

Its designation is Vegetarian Yeast, because it satisfies the deficiencies that commonly occur in the diet of strict vegetarians, such as biotin, folic acid and vitamin B-12 (with the associated micronutrients).

The second improvement that has been made in the enhanced Insure Plus is the addition of the mineral molybdenum, in the form of the amino acid chelate. This mineral plays a vital role in the healthy metabolism of the naturally occurring vitamin C in the ingredients of Insure Plus, in that it activates the enzyme ascorbate oxidoreductase. This enzyme is extremely important in making vitamin C effective in the body. Without the activity of this enzyme, vitamin C, as well as many of its natural co-factors, rapidly degrades into inactive metabolites. Therefore, the protective effect of the enzyme prolongs effective levels of vitamin C.

Life Force Super Antioxidant

Our research has shown that the effectiveness of Life Force Super Antioxidant is increased dramatically by increasing the levels of the proanthocyanidins derived from grape seed extract. Fortunately, further research has taken place on this material since its introduction several years ago. As a result, we have been able to increase the proanthocyanidin content of this formula more than twofold.

A further improvement in this formula was accomplished by increasing the level of the enzyme catalase. This enzyme plays a key role in the coordinated formula of Life Force Super Antioxidant by protecting the other antioxidant ingredients in the formula, as well as the body itself, from destructive effects of the peroxide radical. This is an important consideration, as the levels of peroxide that commonly occur in the body can easily destroy many antioxidants before their benefit can be felt.

The mineral molybdenum was also added to this formula to activate the enzyme ascorbate oxidase and accomplish the benefits described in the section on Insure Plus.

Lipo-chromizyme

It has been determined in our research that the effectiveness of this formula in enhancing fat metabolism and supporting the body's control of blood lipid abnormalities is significantly enhanced by increased levels of supplementation of the enzyme lipase. Therefore, higher levels of this enzyme were incorporated into the improved formula.

One of the principal functions of this formula is to support normal metabolism of sugars in the body. We found that this benefit of the formula is enhanced by raising the levels of the mineral chromium. We determined that as much as a twenty-fold increase in chromium levels, as Chromium Chelavite, greatly improves the function of the formula in this regard, especially in cases of hypoglycemia, pre-diabetic syndrome or even frank diabetes.

Total Flora Support

There are three requirements which we place on a species of bacteria in order for it to qualify for addition to this product:

1. The species must show benefit in humans.

2. It must be proven that it can be fed orally and successfully implant in the human intestine.

3. A stable culture must be isolated which can be processed and stored at ordinary environ mental conditions.

The research into the effects on the human body of beneficial intestinal bacteria continues to show benefit from an increasing number of bacteria species. Ongoing research activity, particularly by the group at the University of Nebraska headed by Dr. Khem Shahani, has resulted in the recent availability of additional stabilized cultures of several of these organisms. Four of these bacteria have shown particular human benefit, and they have been incorporated into the improved formula. The new species in the formula are Bifidobacterium longum, Bifidobacterium infantis, Lactobacillus lactis and Lactobacillus brevis. This brings the number of beneficial bacteria species in this product to twelve.

Another significant improvement in this formula is the addition of Magnesium Glycyl Glutamine, the chelated compound that was recently co-developed by the research personnel of Infinity² and Albion Laboratories. This unique compound supplies the amino acid glutamine in a stable form and is the subject of a recently-issued patent jointly held by the two companies. It has been found, through working with Dr. Shahani's group at the University of Nebraska, that this compound greatly improves the stability and colonization characteristics of beneficial bacteria. This addition to the formula provides even greater effectiveness of all twelve of the species in the improved formula.

Summary

The improvements recently made in the Infinity² Nutritionals will provide even greater benefit than the previous version of the formulas. However, we realize that in the real world there is no such thing as perfection; and the Formulation Team continues to be committed to ongoing research and bringing to the products of Infinity², and the consumers of those products, the benefit of that research.
